On Tuesday, May 21, in Kyiv, contracts were signed within the framework of the NATO project on the radioactive waste repository, which is stored in a burial ground in the Kirovograd region.

This is reported by Korrespondent.

It is noted that the leading country in this project is Germany, another one of the donors is Norway. The project will take 18 months to be implemented. The total cost is 1.5 million euros.

The project will be implemented in several stages.

The first is the radiation study of the facility, the study of historical information of the site with radiological and environmental studies.

The second is the preparation of a technical solution, the pretreatment of radioactive waste, their extraction, conditioning, packaging in containers and transportation to disposal sites.

The third is the reclamation of the territories of the facility, the return of the territories to the primary state.

It is expected that the project will result in the rehabilitation of the territory in which radioactive waste is now stored, as well as the elimination of the threat of illegal distribution of radioactive materials outside the facility and a reduction in the negative impact on the environment and the population of the region.
