From April 17 to April 27, the annual World Chess Championship among schoolchildren 2019 was held in Lara (Turkey).
The international tournament was attended by 392 players from 33 countries of the world. Ukraine was represented by the 16-year-old resident of Kramatorsk - Kamila Grishchenko (in the category of girls under 17 years) and Anna Chekhani (girls under 11 years).
Kamila Grishchenko became the bronze World Champion with a score of 6.6 points out of 9. Players from Mongolia got gold and silver. Anna Chekhani took the 19th place.
“I played 9 match-games; each of them lasted about 5 hours. Preparation for them took another 3-4 hours. The competitions were intense, and rivals were strong. I didn’t have enough experience and anxiety, but I’m sure that my main victories are ahead. Participation in the World Championships is an interesting and rewarding experience that I got thanks to the support of the Borys Kolesnikov Fund. In February, the President of the Fund, Borys Kolesnikov, handed me a certificate for 75,000 UAH, which are necessary for participating in a chess tournament in Turkey. In 2018, philanthropists also helped me get to the European Blitz and Rapid Chess Championship, where I won gold. I am grateful to the Fund for its activities, in particular, the implementation of programs aimed at supporting sports, education, and talented youth,” - Kamila Grishchenko shared her impressions.
We would like to recall that the young resident of Kramatorsk has been involved in chess since she was 6 years old. She is a student of the chess club named after A. Momot and a Candidate Master of Sports. Now she is actively preparing for the World Blitz and Rapid Chess Championship, which will be held in Spain in September.
