On this fact, the police initiated criminal proceedings under Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Fraud". The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to 3 years.
The 26-year-old boy went to the police with the message that he was a victim of fraudsters. The applicant was looking for an apartment for rent on the website of free ads, found a suitable option, called and, having agreed to rent an apartment, paid a deposit in the amount of 5,500 UAH. However, after receiving the money transfer, the “landlord” no got in touch.
On the fact of committing fraud, the police began a pre-trial investigation, as reported by the press service of the police.
Swindlers are actively working in the rental market, tricking in renting other people's apartments or luring money from their victims. When long-term renting an apartment, criminals often use a common scheme: they rent housing (daily or for 1-2 months), after which they rent housing to several tenants as soon as possible and disappear.
