In Kharkov, six students of school No. 155, which is located in the Solnechny microdistrict (Industrial District), fell ill with meningitis.
As the Director of the Kharkov Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Healthcare Lyubov Mahota told the Comments, these are students of the sixth and eighth grades, they were placed in an infectious diseases hospital.
Five children fell ill before the start of the school year, one child - on the third day of school attendance. Therefore, an outbreak is not associated with an educational institution. Perhaps the children contacted each other outside the school. Meningococcal infection is transmitted by airborne droplets or by contact through the home.
According to the chief sanitary doctor of the city, the school conducted disinfection and other anti-epidemic measures. The head of the educational institution was given recommendations on prevention: to ventilate and carry out general cleaning of the premises, temporarily cancel the cabinet training system.
Mahota also added that meningitis is inherent in seasonality: the peak incidence occurs in late August - early September.
