Although the July increase in pensions and social standards pleased Ukrainians, it was also alarming, as everyone was expecting a significant increase in prices. And the prices rose in July compared to June. Vegetables have especially risen in price, but this was, according to experts, not due to an increase in social standards, but to the weather conditions of this summer.

When the weather got better and warmer in August, as usual, prices began to decline. Carrots, beets and onions fell in price by 40-50%, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant by 20-30%.

Despite the pickling season, there was no further increase in the price of sugar; today it is almost back to June position. True, pork, beef, carcasses of chicken and chicken became 10 percent cheaper.

Prices for sweets, tea, bread, coffee and milk did not decrease, but also did not increase. Sour cream and cottage cheese became 10-15% cheaper. Fish also fell in price, hake today can be bought at 67 UAH per kilogram, while in July it was not sold for less than 70 UAH.

According to the director of the Institute for Social and Economic Transformation, Ilya Neskhodovsky, a seasonal increase in vegetable prices will be observed in the fall. And because of the increase in the cost of electricity (for industry), products where this share is significant will rise in price, UNIAN writes. The cost of utilities will remain at the level of the previous year. In September, tobacco and alcohol will rise in price due to an increase in excise rates.

“But in general, the situation in the consumer market will be positive and there will be no significant inflationary shocks,” – the expert summed up. Hence, a significant increase in prices is not expected.
