Today, on Tuesday, July 16, after the introduction of two thousand edits, the law on the Ukrainian language entered into force, OBOZREVATEL reported. Now it has become mandatory for use in public space. It is required to speak only Ukrainian in organizations of the state and municipal sector, in transport, cafes, canteens and restaurants.
Only Ukrainian should be used on signatures and labeling of goods and services, in hospitals, polyclinics, universities, schools and kindergartens, in theater performances and dubbing cinema. The use of the Ukrainian language has become mandatory on television, on the Internet and in the pages of newspapers.
However, the law does not apply when performing religious ceremonies and the sphere of private communication. That is, people can communicate with each other in any language. For violations of the rights of citizens to receive services in the Ukrainian language in state institutions and public spheres defined by law, a fine is set at a maximum amount of 11,900 UAH.
But the rules of the fine will be applied to violators only after three years.
