The MP Arthur Martovitsky called on the Verkhovna Rada to support the decision of the OPPOSITION BLOC on the cancellation of the voting results for the language bill. He stated this during a briefing on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, May 14.

According to him, the language bill was adopted with gross violations: Parliament Speaker Andrei Parubiy voted for it, violating the procedure clearly described by the Rules of Procedure. Also, there are numerous facts of “button punching”, which made the Constitutional Court to overturn the previous language law a year ago.

Arthur Martovitsky reminded that the Constitution and the Regulations of the Verkhovna Rada require the deputies to vote personally. Nevertheless, the people's deputies, whose cards voted in favor, were absent in the session hall.

“The Ukrainian people did not delegate the right of a non-existent coalition to push this controversial document through fraud. If the coalition had no votes, the bill should have been removed from consideration. If there is no coalition in the parliament, we must admit this and apologize for the five years of your time in power stolen from the people,” – the opposition leader emphasized.

According to him, it is impossible to return the Donbass and the Crimea while discriminating people on a linguistic basis. “Moreover, such a Nazi ideology will lead to further loss of citizens' trust in the state, and the consequences will be tragic,” – the politician noted.

According to Arthur Martovitsky, the provocative language law violates the Constitution and contradicts the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages which is part of Ukrainian legislation. “Almost half of the citizens speak two languages – Ukrainian and Russian – or mostly Russian. The language bill calls them a national minority and equates to enemies. If it is not a split of society and not a division into first and second grade, if it is not fascism, then what is it? European norms? Perhaps, but then it is the Europe of the XIIIth century since the inquisition,” – the opposition politician emphasized.

"Every Ukrainian will pay from his own pocket for the creation of new bureaucratic institutions – the institute of language inspectors who will punish the Russian language and the National Commission on Language Standards, whose certificates, rather than diplomas of Ukrainian universities, will become the basis for participating in competitions for public office", - the MP added.

Arthur Martovitsky called on the Verkhovna Rada to support the decision of the OPPOSITION BLOC on the cancellation of the results of voting for the language bill 5670-d.
